Emerald Relativity
After a long and successful global career in the mining supply industry, I have returned to my first love of contemporary sculpture. My return to art is influenced by my extensive experiences living and working around the world in the mineral extraction industries, in diverse places ranging from the Gobi Desert to the frozen wastes of the Arctic Circle. These unique steel, slate and glass creations are inspired by the earth’s resources and look to incorporate my “Earthlight” sculptures back into the landscape.
This modernist sculpture is titled “Emerald Relativity” It is a unique collaboration internally between me and my major influences, in this case Barbara Hepworth. (During lockdown I created several Earthlight sculptures influenced by the greats). I want my art to make a statement that as we are coping with extreme weather events, monitoring the impacts of climate change for protecting the environment (e.g., preventing ocean pollution or deforestation). This piece, which is entirely made from the planet’s resources, provides an emerald portal to observe and contemplate the surroundings from a piece of sculpture that balances its organic feel with its stark lines and its mineral extraction origins. This “Earthlight” sculpture, made for sale at “Leaf Creative” in its wonderful location of Huntley.
